Swah Design named Architectural Digest's Studio of the Year for its contributions to residential architecture.
Context and Materiality
The site, perched on a steep slope overlooking the valley, demanded a structure that felt anchored yet light. We chose locally sourced stone for the base, grounding the house into the mountain, while the upper volumes are clad in weathered timber that will silver with time.
"We wanted the house to feel like it had always been there," explains Sarah Swah, Principal Architect. "The materials are not just surfaces; they are the structure itself."
Interior Atmosphere
Inside, the palette is restrained. Concrete floors provide thermal mass, capturing the warmth of the low winter sun. Large, frameless windows dissolve the boundary between the living space and the dramatic landscape outside.
